A Downton Abbey Wedding!

Are you a Downton Abbey fan? If you aren't yet, oh boy, you should be! I must warn you, you will be hooked instantly. Not to give too much away to those who haven't seen the show or the first episode of Season Three-but it ended on a very high note. Much the same way it ended in Season Two-with Mary and Matthew FINALLY getting engaged!

Here is Lady Mary Crawley in 1920 on her wedding day:

And the long awaited Mr. and Mrs. Crawley....yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

In the spirit of a Downton Abbey wedding, here are some authentic 1920's photos of brides on their wedding days. Take notice of their AMAZING dresses and veils. Makes me want to renew my vows and plan a vintage wedding!! heheh Enjoy!

Weren't these brides and their dresses just divine! Just the detail alone makes me want to swoon! The final photo is of Queen Elizabeth's mother on her wedding day on April 26, 1923. Just stunning!!

  1. I've got the links and Veronica and I are gonna sit down and watch it sometime soon!!! We're also currently in the middle of our OUAT marathon. I gave Veronica the dvd as an early birthday present. LOVE both those shows!

  2. I ordered the DVD for season one:) I heard the UK version is better so this is the one I bought. I'm excited to watch. I don't have Netflix streaming. I've been hearing about this show for sometime and decided it was time for me to see it:)

  3. I love this show!!! I watched the first episode of season 3 on sunday (as I live in the uk) and the wedding was lovely!!! Great post and pics xxxx

  4. Lovely post. Gorgeous photos. I'm a huge Downton fan and loved Sunday's episode. It IS addictive.

  5. So glad you all enjoy the post! There will be more Downtown posts coming up soon!! xox

  6. They really were incredibly beautiful. I always imagine that (many of the) brides of the 20s must have felt so happy - and relieved - to break away from the more restrictive, often heavier gowns of the Edwardian and Victorian eras that their moms and possibly even older sisters had worn, and to have had such soft lines and flowing fabrics to swath themselves with on their special day.

  7. Quick comment. The last photo of Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother is not of her wedding day. This photo is of her as a bridesmaid. The Queen Mother's wedding dress is very medieval looking with almost French cross in front. It's part of a gorgeous display of royal wedding dresses in England.
